It was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” I love this quotation, I love its message. It’s a reminder to all of us to push ourselves, to test our limits, and move outside of our comfortable place, every day if possible, but certainly on a frequent basis.
I use this often with my agents. Pushing ourselves to try new things, to “scare” ourselves a little bit, is the best way to learn, to grow, and to prove to ourselves that we are capable of more than we think we are.
In real estate, we have many opportunities to practice this approach. It could be a listing presentation in a price point or a neighborhood that is a little unfamiliar to us. It could be a property tour with a buyer we haven’t met before. It might be as simple as seizing the opportunity to strike up conversation with a stranger. Those “scary” things don’t have to be big things, just things we don’t do often, or don’t like to do, or things that simply are out of our comfort zone.
Try it, practice it, and trust me, you will soon realize there is no limit to what you are capable of achieving.
