If you’re anything like me, the moment you move into your new home you want to be unpacked with pictures hung on the wall, painting done, renovations complete and every last inch decorated to perfection.
However, the reality is that it will take a little longer than your first night to get your home looking as amazing as you’ve envisioned it.
It can be a tough thing to accept when you’re so excited to get the ball rolling. You’ve probably visited your new home several times since your offer was accepted, taken a few family members to see it, and you may have even spent time with a contractor or a painter researching wallpaper, paint colors, furniture and drapes.
Our recommendation is to wait to make the big decisions about décor after spending some time in your new place. You may think you know how you want your kitchen laid out, or what color you want to paint the powder room, but it’ll be much easier to make those decisions once you have spent a few weeks, or even months, living in your new home.
Walking around and looking at your new house for a half hour here-and-there offers a very different perspective than the one you’ll get after countless nights spent sleeping, making dinner, and watching TV in your new space.
Just remember, your patience is going to pay off. As much as you want your new home to be perfect right off the bat, my strong advice is to wait. Perfection can wait too. You’ll be much happier waiting a few months to decorate than rushing the process to make quick decisions you’ll later regret.
