The real estate business asks a lot of agents. You need to always be on call. You need to be unfailingly patient, understanding, and positive no matter the circumstances. You need to have knowledge of the market that’s both deep and broad. And on top of all this, if you market yourself (as most agents do), you need to be able to create compelling messages in the tiny slivers of time that are left to you for such tasks. You need to be inspired whenever the opportunity strikes.
So what do you do if you’re just… not?
I have an agent who keeps a prolific blog, posting each week without fail. She’s a successful agent and receives many agent referrals as a result of her witty and insightful posts. But last week during our coaching session, she shared with me that she’s been struggling recently with ideas for her blog.
She put it plainly: “Inspiration is a bitch!”
Indeed it is. We’ve all been there. You’ve got some marketing materials you need and an hour to get it done, but no words will come. You apply all kinds of self-imposed pressure, push for inspiration to happen, and hope that it will come to you exactly when you want it to. The whole process can be, well, something less than inspiring.
I suggested to my agent that she write a blog post about her struggles with inspiration. She loved the idea. And, not only did she write a post about inspiration, funnily enough, she rediscovered some of her previously missing inspiration and wrote two more posts in the same sitting. Sometimes, whatever it is that is keeping us stuck can be the very thing to help us get unstuck.
