Our sellers often ask “does leaving my home on the market over the holidays make any sense?”
Well, unless you’re entertaining 25 of your family and friends for a full two weeks over the holidays, our answer to that question is probably going to be a resounding “Yes!”
There’s no doubt about it, you may have fewer buyers coming to look at your home over the holidays, but the buyers who do venture out are the serious ones. Very few people browse in between their hectic holiday shopping and family entertaining. So, if they’re looking for a home during one of the busiest seasons of the year, then chances are, they really want to find one.
Remember, too, that your home can look especially inviting during the holiday season. Beautiful lights, decorations and lively fireplaces can enhance how your home shows to prospective buyers and do even more to assist them in imagining themselves living there. This is a great time for home and if you can showcase your property in a festive way, it could help a buyer fall in love with your home more so than any other time of year.
Of course, we understand that the “most wonderful time of year” doesn’t always come without inconveniences. You may have family stopping in, you may be preparing for parties or events or even spending more time at home yourself. And to throw the additional wrench into things, you could get an unwanted visit from Jack Frost, leaving behind ice and snow on the roads.
However, if you can tolerate these holiday hassles, then we suggest you do. During my career as a real estate professional, December 25 to January 1 has often been one of my most busy and successful times, frequently selling more difficult properties.
