Before I opened my own real estate office and when I was managing three sales offices, overseeing the sales activities of close to 100 agents, I would often have an agent drop into my office, slump in the chair on the other side of my desk, and declare, “I think I should send out a mailer!”
With some prompting, some questioning, I would discover that the agent was looking ahead to the next few months with no pending sales on the books and the fear of no income would have kick-started the “marketing motivation” in them. And they had decided that a mailer was the way to go.
The reality is, that sending out a “one-off” mailer when business is looking a little dried up, is not the way to give your business a boost. One mailer, with an unclear focus, an unclear audience is going to cost money, time, and effort and accomplish little to nothing in return.
Consistency is the key. And a solid marketing plan. Use this “fear” to write a business plan, to establish a focused and consistent plan for marketing yourself. What is your goal? Who are trying to reach? How can you touch that audience?
And then keep doing it. Be consistent. Track your results. But never think that a one-off attempt at marketing is going to solve your lack of business.
